The Royal Proclamation of 1763

 Proclamation

King George III promulgates the Royal Proclamation of 1763 to lay down the basis of a governmental administration of the north-american land officially yielded by France and Great Britain by the Treaty of Paris (1763). This proclamation established the constitutional frame that governs the negociation of treaties with the amerindian populations of the vaste regions of Canada. This is why it was called the “Great Aboriginal Charter” or the “Charter of Aboriginal Rights”. The Royal Proclamation of 1763 is metionned in Article 25 of the Constitutional Act of 1982. This article stipulates that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms recognizes the aboriginal people by the Royal Proclamation.
